On September 28, 2017, a statue of St. Mary was unveiled at the entrance of Mesrobian Armenian Catholic High School’s Faradjian Auditorium, in memory of the late teacher Mrs. Shoghig Handian Khatcherian, in the presence of relatives, Mesrobian’s faculty and staff, and students.

Mr. Gregoire Kaloust, principal of Mesrobian, said that Mrs. Shoghig’s memory will reside forever in our hearts, as a selfless teacher and an honest colleague. He said that the deceased was not only a true expert and knowledgeable in the subjects that she taught, but also passionate in her teaching. Mr. Kaloust said that the Armenian Language and Literature prize of Mesrobian will be named after Mrs. Shoghig Handian Khatcherian, to honor her memory. He emphasized that the eternal memory of her can grow as the students stay faithful to the Armenian language and the Armenian Identity that she cherished so much.

The Spiritual Councilor of Mesrobian Father Raffi Hovhannesian said that in this moment, it is not the statue of St. Mary that is to be worshipped, but the message and life example that the statue represents. Then the statue was blessed by him and the St. Savior Church’s vice parish Father Ghazar Bedrosian. The gathering ended with a group prayer.

Mr. Hagop Handian, brother to the deceased, expressed his gratitude to the Mesrobian family for standing with him and his family in this great loss, and for honoring Mrs. Shoghig’s memory.
