On March 1, 2019, the students of Armenian Catholic Mesrobian High School enthusiastically celebrated this year also the traditional feast of St. Vartan through two separate well-organized celebrations, which took place at the Hovhannes Boghossian Theater Hall.

During both events, the students of Mesrobian commemorated and glorified the memory of Avarayr heroes through individual and collective songs, recitations, musical, and theatrical performances. The performances were characterized by immediacy and meticulous preparation, thus revealing the great work carried out by the teachers in charge. The students who delivered the opening speeches reaffirmed on behalf of all the students their commitment to St. Vartan’s vow and paid a tribute to all the braves who had sacrificed their lives for the religion and homeland. It was noteworthy that during the celebration of the elementary classes, the students presented the ‘’Vartan and Mother’’ dialogue and the "TV Contest Program", through which they were able to revive this great day of our history and share knowledge, as well as to convey Avarayr’s messages.

Vicar of the St. Savior Church Father Khatchig Koumoumdjian, according to his beneficial habit, turned his planned speech into a dialogue with the students of elementary classes. Based on the replies to his questions addressed to the students, Father Kouyoumdjian voiced through them the main ideas that characterize the Avarayr heroic deed.

The keynote speaker of the secondary classes’ celebration was the Lebanese-Armenian press activist, Mr. Aharon Shekherdemian, whose speech was full of interesting information about the war of St. Vartan and its dictated messages for these days. Mr. Shkherdemian proved by historical facts that despite losing the battle of Avarayr, the Armenian people won the war of St. Vartan, which reached its goals through the Nouarsak Treaty. He urged the students to firmly cling to the Armenian culture and proudly stick to the national and spiritual identity, for which St. Vartan and his friends did not hesitate to sacrifice their lives.

Mesrobian’s Principal Mr. Gregoire Kalousd gave the closing remarks in both events. He stressed that the preservation of the Armenian national identity, in its different manifestations, is itself a battle of Avarayr, whose citadels, especially in the Armenian diaspora, continue to remain the Armenian School and the Armenian Church.

St. Vartan Feast was also celebrated in Mesrobian’s kindergarten and nursery through activities adequate for children.
