On April 7, 2019, the students of Armenian Catholic Mesrobian High School made an unprecedented achievement, winning the Lebanese Schools’ Chess Championship for the second consecutive year.

432 students from 80 schools participated in this championship, which took place at Amjad School in Choueifat, under the sponsorship of Lebanese Chess Federation.

Our school’s chess team was composed of 11 students: Gio and Guy Kaloust, Nanor and Nayiri Arnelian, Garo Kalfayan, Cesar Khalife, Jean Kiredjian, Christapor Boshnakian, Mark Gulgulian, Arek Djenanian and Antranig Asdourian.

During the gathering organized on this occasion, Mesrobian’s Principal Mr. Gregoire Kaloust stated that this victory is the best gift that the chess team students could dedicate to the school’s 80th founding anniversary. The principal mentioned that this achievement was made possible through the efforts of the Chess Teacher Mr. Elie Houlishian, the support of the students’ parents and the consistent encouragement of Mesrobian’s teaching staff.
