On May 27, the students of Armenian Catholic Mesrobian High School marked the feast of the First Republic of Armenia, commemorating the heroes, who made the dream of the Armenian people a reality, the dream of reaffirming the independent statehood in the motherland.

The event, which took place in the courtyard of the school, initiated with the national anthem of Armenia, performed by ‘’Dzidzernag’’ Choir.

11th Grade Student Carla Keshishan delivered the opening speech, in which she said the following: “As a result of winning the battles of Sartarabat, Gharakilisa and Pash Abaran against the genocidal Turks, on May 28, 1918, the First Republic of Armenia was created to free the Armenian people from its slavery of centuries, to restore its dignity, to make it sovereign and to ensure its survival on its native land. Through May 28, the Armenian people proved that in order to achieve independence, they should only rely on their own strength and not rely on foreigners.’’

During the artistic program, ‘’Dzidzernag’’ Choir performed the song "Hzor Panag" (Strong Army), Arda Nersessian recited Baruyr Sevag's "Menk Kitch enk payts Hay enk"(We are little but we are Armenians), and 7th and 8th grade students recited Jack S. Hagopian's ‘’ Garmir, Gabouyd, Narnchakouyn’’ (Red, Blue and Orange) Poem.
Mesrobian’s Principal Gregoire Kaloust delivered the closing speech, in which he stated that the Armenian people will strengthen today’s Armenia for the sake of our unfulfilled desires and make the dream of United Armenia a reality, for which thousands of martyrs died from Sartarabad to Artsakh. The event ended with ‘’Sartarabat’’ victory anthem.
