On December 2, 2024, the Armenian Catholic Mesrobian High School hosted its traditional and solemn Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony in the main courtyard. This cherished annual event, uniting the Mesrobian family of teachers, students, and parents, held a particularly profound significance this year, reflecting the challenges faced by Lebanon and the emergence of renewed hope.
The ceremony began with opening remarks by Lea Keshishian and Marilyn Havanjian, graduates of both the High School and the Technical College. Among the attendees were Father Sahag Keshishian, parish priest of St. Savior Church, and Father Raphael Jawharji. The keynote address was delivered by Mrs. Christine Tanielian Sarkissian, Director of the Jinishian Memorial Association, followed by a speech from Mesrobian Principal, Mr. Gregoire Kaloust.
Mrs. Sarkissian highlighted the symbolism of the Christmas tree, describing it as a beacon of light and hope that serves as a constant reminder of God’s boundless love in our lives. In his address, Mr. Kaloust emphasized that the tree's lights represent the sacred aspirations for peace and unity, values that are especially vital for our society today. He added that on Christmas Eve, a statue of Baby Jesus will be placed in a manger beneath the tree during a special ceremony, completing the profound meaning and mystery of the season’s celebration.
As Lebanon emerges from the shadows of its recent conflicts, with hearts and souls only beginning to heal from the turmoil, the lights of the Christmas Tree served as a powerful symbol of hope and renewal for all present. They reminded us that true peace is built upon the pillars of solidarity, mutual love, and unwavering faith. The ceremony imparted spiritual strength, inspiring faith in a future marked by safety, unity, and peace for Lebanon.
On this occasion, Mesrobian’s students performed Christmas carols and songs in praise of love and peace which were embodied by the Lord Jesus Christ.
